Experimentation One

This image was hand-rendered with graphic pencil and ink.

My initial idea was to highlight the key elements of the lions face, for example the eyes would be an element of the lions face.

The left eye was drawn with a graphic pencil, I rendered a lot of the details to show the emotions of the lion.

The right eye was drawn with pen and ink, this gave me unique style to the drawing.

Researching Children's Storybooks

Tyrannosaurus Drip
Illustrated by David Roberts

Whoever heard of a vegetarian T Rex? When a baby Duckbill dinosaur ends up in the Tyrannosaurus nest, he feels very out of place, and his gruesome new family nickname him Drip. But this little dinosaur is not as weedy as he looks. In fact, he's a real hero!

DESIGN BRIEF- OBJECT SEEN AS PARENTS

An example would be if a human were to dress as a panda, the panda's cubs would think that the human dressed as a panda is their parent. Another example would be if a zebra were brought up by a couple of lions. The message I am trying to convey is that animals can be adopted by different species of animals.

What I will be submitting?

  • A sketchbook containing notes, research and development work
  • Storybook (The Jungle Book)
  • 2 posters

Comparing Animal Species

I was interested to find out how different animals parent their offspring.

from research I found out that most lionesses will have reproduced by the time they are four years of age.

I also found that male lions will chase away new born sons, so that the cubs wont challenge him. He mates with other lionesses to keep his pride.

The social lives of male and female elephants are very different. The females spend their entire lives in tightly knit family groups made up of mothers, daughters, sisters, and aunts. These groups are led by the eldest female, or matriarch. Adult males, on the other hand, live mostly solitary lives.

The mating season is short and females are only able to conceive for a few days each year. She will detach herself from the herd. The scent of the female (cow) elephant in heat (or estrus) attracts the male and she also uses audible signals to attract the male. As the female can usually outrun the male, she does not have to mate with every male that approaches her.

Initial Thoughts

For some people parents is the key in life and for others parents don't exist.

Definition of Parents
A parent is a caretaker of the offspring in their own species. In humans, a parent is the mother or the father figure of a child (NOTE: "child" refers to offspring, not age). Children can have one or more parents, but they must have two biological parents.
